Independent variable: This would be the speed of the car she will be driving.
Dependent variable: The length of time it would take Susan to arrive in her destination using each route.
Controlled variable: The speed of the car she will be driving. This should remain constant in every route she takes. 

2nd question: 
What cooking spray best keeps food from sticking to a pan?

Dan used different independent variables and dependent variables. There is nothing to compare in each experiment because there is no controlled variable.

breakfast: grape seed oil in a pan to cook eggs.
lunch: vegetable oil spray in a muffin tray to cook cornbread
dinner: olive oil in a pan to cook a hamburger patty.

The cooking oil used are not all in spray form. The pan is only used in two occasions. Different type of food were cooked. 

Dan should used cooking oils in spray form. He should also use only one pan and only one type of food to determine whether said food will stick to the pan using a certain cooking oil spray.
