Why do metallic elements bend, while solid and non-metallic elements break or crumble?

metallic elements are malleable because of its ability for the atoms to roll on top of one another without breaking its metallic bond (This is because it is attracted with more force, and is the reason why they have higher melting/boiling points); however, a nonmetals form molecular bonds which doesn't have this property
