Can you think why atoms always have the same amount of electrons and protons

There are the same amount of protons as electrons in a normal situation because atoms usually like to be neutral.  When there are neutrons, which are neutral,  x electrons, which are negative, and x protons, which are positive, then the electrons will cancel the protons.  That's how I see it ((:
