Gold is often found in a pure form in nature because it does not easily react with other elements. This characteristic is also defined as inert because it does not oxidize easily unlike other elements such as iron. As a matter of fact, gold found in rivers or underground is ofen found in a native or free state. Due to this unreactive nature, wealth is often stored in the form of gold coins or bars.

They are all full and don't need any more electrons in there outer shell.
