Describe how both genes and the environment can affect the growth of organisms

The environment can affect an organisms through natural evolution. Example: Spotted moths camouflage with the bark on trees, but black moths do not. So the black moths are eaten and the spotted moths survive. The white moths then pass on their genes to their offspring, so their offspring will also be spotted. Eventually most moths will be spotted. But when the industrial revolution occured, the bark of the trees changed to a darker colour. Therefore the spotted moths were easily seen by predators and were eaten. But the black moths blended in with the bark so they survived. The black moths then passed on their genes to their offspring so most of the moth population had black wings.
