Doing Buffer/Titration calculations. Going to be vague because I want to know the general setup/steps. We are given V and Molarity of TES, The pH=pKa and told to titrate a given the V and M of HCL.

I tried this based on H-H that we were given, but it seems like there is a lot more we are expected to know coming into the class.

I set up the stoichiometry.

Calculate moles of both given.

Subtract the moles acid from moles HCl and TES, Add moles acid to conjuagte acid(str acid completely dissociates).

pH= pKa + Log(Conj. Acid/Base) because we are starting with base and adding acid. (the other way around incr. how basic the solution is)

What am I missing? I see some examples do it this way, some add this random
[Conjugate base] = [Acid] = 1/2 x M before calculating the moles. Where did that come from? How does that fit in?

Why are there so many ways to do these problems but only one right way and it is treated like a secret?

I have a foundation, but no tools to build scaffolding here. Very frustrated.
