A teacher asks students to design an activity to study the formation of inherited traits. Which activity should the students design?

The students should create a project in which they each look at a unique trait that each have (for example, detached ear lobes) and look at their parents to see if they too have this trait. To take it a step further, look at their grandparents for this trait, and ask them about their parents and if they have this trait, this could tell them whether the trait has always, been apparent within the family, if it skipped a generation, or the genetics of one parents were more dominant then the other.
