EXPERIMENT You have learned that carbon dioxide is a compound consisting of two atoms of oxygen united with one atom of carbon. This substance is a gas which you exhale (breathe out) as waste material. In this experiment, you will combine carbon dioxide with limewater (calcium hydroxide) to make a new compound called calcium carbonate.
