Refer to the approach we used in solving problems in Lesson 8b, to answer the following question. Airbags in cars inflate when a sample of sodium azide (NaN3) in the airbag decomposes rapidly during an accident. The decomposition is represented by the following unbalanced equation: NaN3(s)→ Na(s)+N2(g) Note: (s) means solid and (g) means gas and they do not affect any calculations The nitrogen gas produced in this reaction fills up the bag to protect the car’s occupants. In their design of a car, if the engineers decided to fill the airbag with 50g of sodium azide (NaN3), what mass of nitrogen gas (N2) will be produced? Hint: balance the chemical equation before using it for any calculation.
