In general, the atom consists of nuclei which contains protons (positive charge) and neutrons (neutral charge), and there are electrons (negative charge) which orbit in certain orbits at a certain discrete set of distances from the nucleus. These orbits called energy levels, and every level has its definite energy differs from others(these energy levels take symbols from K to Q). when the electron gain (absorb) an energy equals to the the difference energy between two energy levels, it will transfer or jump from the lowest energy level to the higher one and will be in the excited state, and then the electron can lose this energy to be more stable and go back to the lower energy level by releasing (emitting) electromagnetic radiation with a frequency ν to form an emission line, where, ΔE = E2 - E1 = h υ, where h is planck constant and υ is the frequency.
