a) What causes color in source water such as river?  

Color in a river can have different sources such as: Natural or anthropogenic. Natural sources are ground, and minerals, when the river flows it will dissolve some minerals and ground around. Anthropogenic source correspond mainly to wastewater, which is disposed by humans into the rivers, due to it, color of the river will change.

b) Briefly discuss the problem cause by color in water.  

Colored water can achieve a strong effect on aquatic plants and algae. Illumination is a critical factor for plant growth in aquatic ecosystems, colored water can reduce the amount of illumination available for aquatic plants. Due to it, algae growth will increase in water surface, avoiding light penetration in future scenarios. Color change the composition and can produce smell in source water such as river or lakes.  

c) Briefly discuss how we can remove color in water?

We can remove color in water through different filtration process, for example:

1- Activated carbon filtration: Those are small particles which can capture in the surface color compounds. Water cross through this and will reduce its color.

2- Mechanical filtration: when using a sand filter, color and big particles stay captured in the sand. In that way after the water cross this filter, mostly water without color components will cross the device of filtration.
