Can you explain why the elements on the right hand side of the periodic table receive electrons instead of giving them up?

Due to the Octet Rule ...

Elements on the right side of the Periodic Table gain electrons in order to get the 8 valence electrons and form negative ions.

And elements on the left side of the Periodic Table lose electrons in order and form positive ions.

the transfer of heat by electromagnetic radiation is called thermal radiation . it is usually carried out by electromagnetic waves in an energy range just below the visible spectrum, which is the infrared range.

so the answer would be radiation.
