Strong acids fully dissociate when dissolved in water. When this happens, all the hydrogen ions present in the acid are produced. Weak acids do not dissociate completely, so less hydrogen ions are produced.

When there is a higher concentration of hydrogen ions, the pH of the solution is lower. The lower the pH, the stronger the acid.
