Backyard Adventures (BA) is a guided tour and water sports rental company in Jacksonville, Florida run by two brothers, Shawn and Harry Weaver. They advertise Backyard Adventures in several local and regional magazines and web sites, but the Weavers don't feel that it is attracting new business. BA rents space at a nearby marina, where Shawn runs the office, and handles rentals on the days Harry's busy with the tour groups. BA has two main business segments: rentals and guided tours but also does some instruction on the side if needed. Customers are required to make reservations in advance for scheduled tours but sometimes space is available for extra customers. Rentals are booked by reservations and walk-in customers. Melissa Smith, a local college student, handles the telephone inquires and reservations. Daily she enters the reservations in a binder, with tabs for each business activity. This list is used to back-up the Microsoft Access database that she uses to record reservations. Each morning, she runs a report that will print out the reservation list for the day. Not only does she maintain the reservation database, but she also uses an accounting software to keep BA's books. Although the BA database handles the basic information, Harry has noticed some drawbacks. On several occasions the reservations for the tours have conflicted with his availability. Shawn and Harry would like to get information about rental patterns, customer profiles, advertising effectiveness and future business opportunities. They have been talking about either updating their system or replacing it with a new information system that would meet their current and future needs but needs more details on which option is feasible for the company. Your job is to help come up with a plan to address these issues. Required:
Justify the functional requirements. Explain what documentation will be used to analyze the needs of the end-users to ensure the new system can meet their expectations?

Alandowner and his neighbor purchased adjoining undeveloped lots. after both built homes on their respective lots, the landowner suggested to the neighbor that a common driveway be built where the two lots joined. the neighbor agreed. the landowner and the neighbor split the cost of constructing the driveway and entered into a written agreement to equally share the costs of its upkeep and maintenance. the agreement was recorded in the county recorder's office. two years later, the neighbor built a new driveway located entirely on his lot. the common driveway, which the landowner continued to use but which the neighbor no longer used, began to deteriorate. the landowner asked the neighbor for money to maintain the common driveway, but the neighbor refused to contribute. three years later, the neighbor conveyed his lot to a friend. the friend entered into possession and used only the driveway built by the neighbor. by this time, the common driveway had deteriorated badly and contained numerous potholes. the landowner asked the friend to pay half of what it would take to repair the common driveway. the friend refused. the landowner repaired the driveway and sued the friend for 50% of the cost of repairs. will the landowner prevail?

Afirm's before-tax cost of debt, rd, is the interest rate that the firm must pay on debt. because interest is tax deductible, the relevant cost of debt used to calculate a firm's wacc is the cost of debt, rd (1 – t). the cost of debt is used in calculating the wacc because we are interested in maximizing the value of the firm's stock, and the stock price depends on cash flows. it is important to emphasize that the cost of debt is the interest rate on debt, not debt because our primary concern with the cost of capital is its use in capital budgeting decisions. the rate at which the firm has borrowed in the past is because we need to know the cost of capital. for these reasons, the on outstanding debt (which reflects current market conditions) is a better measure of the cost of debt than the . the on the company's -term debt is generally used to calculate the cost of debt because more often than not, the capital is being raised to fund -term projects. quantitative problem: 5 years ago, barton industries issued 25-year noncallable, semiannual bonds with a $1,600 face value and a 8% coupon, semiannual payment ($64 payment every 6 months). the bonds currently sell for $845.87. if the firm's marginal tax rate is 40%, what is the firm's after-tax cost of debt? round your answer to 2 decimal places. do not round intermediate calcu
