Nike does not have a manufacturing facility in the United States. Instead, the company manufactures athletic shoes and apparel in Asian countries such as India, Indonesia, and Vietnam with subcontractors, and sells products in the US and international markets. In every Asian country where Nike has production facilities, unemployment and underemployment rates are relatively high. Wages are very low in those countries by US standards — hourly wages in manufacturing are under $2 in each of those countries, compared with about $38 in the United States.
