Hot call: You already or have any contact with the prospective customer before the calls.

Cold call: You don't have any contact before this call.

In business, it is common for a salesperson to approach a potential customer by making a phone call. It can be done in two ways, cold calling, and hot calling.

In cold calling, a salesperson chooses someone to call from a list of a potential customer, so the salesperson does not have any knowledge about the prospective customer. It is a stranger.

On the other hand, hot calling is when a salesperson calls a potential customer who may already have a relationship with the business. It can be a friend, someone contacted the business before through emailing list, website or social media or has shown some interest in the salesperson's product or service. In this case, the prospective customer may be expected the call.

Many countries have regulation about cold calling, how and when a business can make a cold calling. Cold calling considers not an effective way of doing business. Cold calling has a very high rejection rate and since the rise of the internet and mobile phone, people prefer text messaging than a phone call from an unknown number.

Therefore, the sales representative approaches him/her for generating more revenue for the company.

Hot calling:

Cold calling is a task carried out by the sales representative for generating the revenue for the company. In the calling, the sales representative calls the target person who has previously shown the interest in the product of the company and more likely to buy the offered product.  

Difference between the cold calling and hot calling:

Following are the difference between the cold calling and hot calling:

•In cold calling, sales representative does not have any personal data about the potential customer. In representative calling, the sales representative has the information about the potential customer.

•The potential customers of hot calling are more likely to buy the product as compared to the potential customer of cold calling.

•In cold calling, sales representative has not any contact with the potential customer in past. In hot calling, sales representative has already contacted the customer.

•The potential customer of hot calling is more interested in the offered product then the potential customer of cold calling.

Thus, the main difference between cold calling and hot calling is that cold calling is done on random basis and hot calling follows only the interested potential customer.
