President Andrew Johnson made a plan of reconstruction which provided the white south freedom from slavery and no role was assigned to the black in the politics of the South. Members of congress were angry because the plan would permit southern leaders to be elected to the congress. This caused the greatest conflict because the Northerners did not like the idea that anyone lending support to south earlier ,should be elected in the congress.

Reconstruction was a success . The 14th and 15th amendment allowed African Americans to get full civil rights and get independence in southern society.
