How have scientific advancements been both beneficial and disadvantageous to society?

For the benefits we have had improvements on communication and transportation which has cause an upward trend in economic growth. Also we have improved in the medical field, this has an overall advantage in keeping the society healthy.  And as for disadvantages we have cause an increase in CO2 emissions, urbanization, over consumption of resources, and hazardous waste.

affects the water bodies: excessive use of fertilizers causes eutrophication. the fertilizers which are used on plants affect the quality of land on which it is used, further causing erosion of soil. the fertilizers used on plants contain harmful chemical fumes which affect the environment.
