First Gap: The cell is growing in size and is beginning protein synthesis. Duplication is happening. 

Synthesis: DNA is duplicated so that each chromosome contains two identical copies.

Second Gap: Continues to grow in size and making the amount of protein it needs, also confirming the DNA has no errors in it.

(Also after this the GO phase starts to happen)

It is evolution, because we all have some of the same traits like eye color or shape or ears.
