A virus is an infective agent that typically consists of RNA as genetic material present inside a protein coat, these organisms use the host cell machinery to proliferate and increase in number. They are too small that they can only be seen using a light microscope.  

Scientists found a giant virus that is named as mamavirus which was associated with the smaller virus within it. They found that when the mamavirus infecting an amoeba, this resulted in a giant factory of virus production, this viral machinery was hijacked by smaller virus called as sputnik. This example, states that a virus can be infected by another virus. This parasitic nature can be observed in some of the living beings hence, it proves that a virus is living.
