Anurse is teaching breathing exercises to a client with emphysema. what is the reason the nurse should include in the teaching as to why these exercises are necessary to promote effective use of the diaphragm?

Emphysema is a long term disease of the lungs causing shortness of breath due to over inflation of the air sacs located in the lungs. Having breathing exercises would help the lungs to work better by having a better expansion in the lower portion of the lungs near the diaphragm. This will aid the client then to relax during episodes of shortness of breath.
