Proteins on or in the cell surface membrane belongs in the umbrella term 'Transmembrane proteins'.

Under transmemverane proteins, there are 2 types of proteins, peripheral (on surface) and integral (In surface / within).

Glycoproteins are found on the surface of the cell surface membrane. One function is for cell to cell recognition, especially for the immune system to differentiate foreign substances from body cells. Therefore, it is under peripheral proteins.
