Explain why quaternary consumers occupy the top position in the pyramid of energy.

Quaternary consumers occupy the top position in the pyramid of energy because they are the ones who are less likely to have the least energy and have the least energy. Only around 10-15% of energy did the tertiary consumer produces when it was eaten by the Quaternary consumer.

Quaternary consumers occupy the top position in the pyramid of energy because these are the last group of organisms in the food chain which derives their food and energy from their lower trophic levels. There is no other trophic level above them. According to the 10% law, energy is decreased by 10% when transferred from lower trophic level to subsequent higher trophic levels. The lowest trophic level includes primary producers which includes plants and phytoplanktons have highest energy in the pyramid of energy. This energy is transferred to primary consumers such as goat, mice and other organisms in the form of food.Then to subsequent secondary, tertiary and quaternary consumers.  Quaternary consumers receives least energy in the energy pyramid hence, occupy the top position in the pyramid of energy.
