These events are interesting because of the large amount of items that were lost, and because some of those items were found over
time in areas all over the world.
• May 1990: The freighter Hansa Carrier encountered a severe storm in the Pacific while en route from Korea to the U. S. Twenty-
one shipping containers fell overboard, releasing more than 60,000 pairs of Nike shoes.
• January 1992: A shipping crate containing 28,000 plastic bath toys fell overboard on the way from Hong Kong to the U. S. Rubber
ducks, frogs, and turtles were released into the ocean.
• February 1997: The container ship Tokio Express was hit by large waves, causing 62 containers to be lost overboard on its way to
New York. One of them contained 4.8 million Lego pieces.
