Soil was taken in a dish and was divided into 4 parts P, Q, R and S using a wire gauze. Part P and Q were kept moist, while R and S were kept dry. Areas Q and S were kept in the dark. Equal numbers of a soil animal were introduced in each of the four areas. It was possible for the animals to move from one area to another. After some days it was found that all the animals had moved to part Q. The same experiment was repeated thrice and in all the cases, the animals had moved to part Q.
