You will “pitch” a myth to me to that you think needs busting. This will only be about a page long, and it’ll be worth 10%. The goal here is to craft an argument about why the myth is problematic and why it needs busting. So the first section of this small assignment should be a very clearly identified myth about human nature. After that, I want you to describe: 1) why you think it’s a myth (and not true, or a fact) about human nature; 2) why it’s a pernicious (dangerous, and in need of busting) myth; 3) and how you plan to critique the myth (what types of information are you going to looking for?) Some ideas to get you going (you can use these, or find your own): 1) Criminality is mostly from nature (aka. Genes/biological); 2) Races differ in intellectual capacity; 3) Women are much more emotional than men, making them poor leaders and decision makers; 4) Poverty is in our genes; 5) Races differ in athletic ability, etc. (These are just some ideas, there are many more out there. Have fun choosing one that matters to you!)

Finally, you need to tell me in a small paragraph what format for the follow-up assignment you will be going with (see below). This is really important, don’t forget to do this! If you can, let me know why you selected the option you did, and what you hope to “get” out of that option. If you select a creative option, I will contact you and we will need to discuss what the parameters for the project will be.

There are two possible ways to complete this assignment: 1) A “traditional” argumentative essay; or 2) a creative project. I’ll first describe the traditional paper route, and then outline the second option after. You can only do one, and once you select your format, I will hold you to it. You need to choose which format you wish to pursue on the first assignment.
