Plants also convert sunlight into other forms of energy. In this case plants convert light energy (1) into chemical energy, (in molecular bonds), through a process known as photosynthesis. Most of this energy is stored in compounds called carbohydrates.The plant uses the stored chemical energy of ATP to make glucose from carbon dioxide. The plant then uses the glucose to make even larger compounds of cellulose and starch, which store energy. As the plant binds molecules into larger and larger chains, it captures and stores energy in the bonds to be released later.The light reactions of photosynthesis occur in the thylakoid membranes of the chloroplast.
