Question
Concordance can be a confusing term, so an explanation is presented that will help answer this
question.
Concordance uses Monozygotic (identical) and dizygotic (non-identical) twin pairs to measure
the inherited component of a given trait. If a trait has a strong inherited component than
monozygotic twins should show a higher concordance than dizygotic. If a trait has a low inherited
component that monozygotic twins and dizygotic twins should show a similar concordance.
Using the above explanation rate the following traits in terms of their inherited genetic component
from strongest to weakest.
Autism
MZ Concordance = 90% DZ Concordance = 4.5%
Acne
MZ Concordance = 14% DZ Concordance = 14%
Hypertension
MZ Concordance = 62% DZ Concordance = 48%
Alzheimer diseae
MZ Concordance = 78% DZ Concordance = 39%
