3.Since the 1.0M solution has a lower water potential than it ( since the mass of the chip decreases stating that “osmosis” has occurred ) Osmosis needs to occur when the net water molecule of a substance travels from a higher to lower water potential.With the water in the chip moving out into the 1.0M solution through the partially membrane the chip has,the mass will decrease.So the answer is number 3 since it describes osmosis and why did the chip decreases in mass.
