When you step on a tack and jeck away, sensory receptors detects stimuli from the external environment and pass the information received as an electrical impulses to the brain through the nerve fibres. The information is processed in the central processing region which is the brain.

The effectors such as the muscles goes into action upon receiving nerve impulses from the brain. Such actions includes muscular contractions which helps you to pick up the tack and put it on your desk.
