1. Cut each piece of construction paper into approximately 30 squares. Each square should be about the same size.
2. Draw a table similar to the one below on the plain piece of paper. If the color of your squares is different from those
listed in the table, substitute your colors.

3. Spread out the blanket on a flat surface.
4. Count out 10 squares of each color and place them in the plastic cup. Keep the remaining squares off to the side.
This is your reserve" pile.
5. Place your hand over the top of the cup and shake it to mix up the squares.
6. Randomly spill the squares over the blanket. Use your hand to spread the squares into a single layer.
7. Turn around and count to 30. Then, face the blanket and pick up the first 10 squares you see. Record the number of
squares for each color in your table (trial 1). Do not return the squares to the blanket. Leave the remaining squares on
the blanket where they are.
8. For every two squares of the same color left on the blanket, add another square of the same color to the plastic cup.
Use your reserve pile to add the squares. For example, if there are four blue squares on the blanket, add two blue
squares from the reserve pile to the cup.
