Enzymes speed up the rate of biochemical reactions in living systems. If cells do not have enzymes the rate of biochemical reactions will be extremely slow and it will not be able to sustain life.

The cell can only be kept alive if the chemical reactions that are needed for its survival occur, if the reactions stop the cells will die. It is the responsibility of the enzymes to ensure that these reactions takes place very fast so that they will be able to sustain the life of the cell.
