Earth is considered as a dynamic system, that is, a combination of interdependent, interrelated, or associating components creating an entity or a collective whole. On a macro level, the system of the Earth sustains its functions and existence as a whole via the associations or interactions of its components or parts.  

At a micro or lower level, it is beneficial to consider of the Earth system in terms of four central constituents known as the subsystem, that is, the geosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and atmosphere.
