Due to the fact the Universe is still expanding from the initial "bang" of the Big Bang, When an object is moving away from your eyes the wavelength increases moving towards the red end of the spectrum . Visualize two balls with a spring connecting them the further you move one ball away from the other the more stretched the spring gets increasing the distance between waves or in this case the spring coils. Closing if objects are still moving away from us it supports the idea that an initial bang had occurred to push them away from us

Doppler effect is defined as a change in observing frequency of a wave, maybe this is too abstract consider: you are sitting next to the river and you suddenly decide to throw a stone in the river, then you notice that the waves around the stone star to increase and grow over one another.guess what? you just cracked the Doppler effect.
The big bang theory can be viewed the same because there was on tiny star(like the small stone) in the universe, that expanded in rippling way until the universe is formed.
