Why are nonrenewable resources used even when renewable resources might be available?

Nonrenewable resources are being used even when renewable sources might be available because, humans can control  them and their production of energy. However renewable resources such as wind, sun , water  rely on weather and things along that sort. Nonrenewable sources such as fossil fuel take a lot longer to replenish then renewable sources do also.
