Describe the digestive system of the earthworm.

The digestive system is partitioned into many regions, each with a certain function. The digestive system consists of the pharynx, the esophagus, the crop, the intestine and the gizzard. Food such as soil enters the earthworm's mouth where it is swallowed by the pharynx.

The digestive system consists of the pharynx, the esophagus, the crop, the intestine and the gizzard. When food (like soil and nutrients) enters through the worms mouth, it's swollowed by the pharynx. Then passes through the esophagus. After it passes through the esophagus, the food moves into the crop, then it's basically stored there from then on.But, eventually it will pass into the gizzard. The gizzard uses stones that the earthworm eats beforehand to grind the food completely. Like a blender. The food moves into the intestines where its gland cells release fluids to basically help in the digestive process, and make it smoother for the worm. The intestinal wall has blood vessels where the digested food is absorbed and transported to the rest of the body, then comes out as rich pheses, needed to help the soil. Hope this helped :)
