Earth id not not round, in fact is is titled to an angle of 23.5 degrees to its orbital plane and this is the reason why we can not experience days and night of an equal length. Also the varying  seasons is also because of the tilt. The areas exposed to the sun will surely experience direct rays and days will longer, where as the rest of the parts will be having chilly nights and shorter days.
