The extensor hallucis longus muscle inserts on digit

This muscle inserts on digit 1 of the foot. It is located between the tibialis anterior and the extensor digitorum longus. Its purpose is to extend the big toe of the foot and dorsiflexes it (meaning to bring it closer to the shin). It also helps foot eversion and inversion.
