Why is photosynthesis important for animals?

Animals don't perform photosynthesis directly - it's the plants they eat that do. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert light energy into useful chemical energy in the form of glucose and similar high-energy molecules. Plants stockpile these energy-rich molecules, which give the animals that eat them valuable sources of energy. Animals rely on plants for most of their energy needs.
