Maintaining the essential internal parameters relatively constant is the phrase that best describes the process of homeostasis.

Homeostasis refers to the condition of constant internal conditions sustained by the living species. This vigorous condition of equilibrium refers to the ideal working for the species and incorporates various variables like the temperature of the body and balance of fluid, being kept within certain pre-limits, that is, within the homeostatic range.  

the corpus luteum secretes estrogens and progesterone. the latter hormone causes changes in the uterus that make it more suitable for implantation of the fertilized ovum and the nourishment of the embryo. if the egg is not fertilized, the corpus luteum becomes inactive after 10–14 days, and menstruation occurs.
