1) glycoproteins play an important role in cell to cell recognition given that the glycoprotein of one cell can identify and respond to the oligosaccharide patterns (of glycoproteins) of another cell. It's also through this process that binding (adhesion occurs).

2) Glycoproteins are found on the surface of the lipid bilayer of cell membranes. Their hydrophilic nature allows them to function in the aqueous environment, where they act in cell-cell recognition and binding of other molecules.

3) Glycoproteins can be found in tissues, cells, and plasma. Protein glycosylation has long been reported to be important structural components and has function in energy storage, adhesion, and intracellular trafficking, as well as signaling through cell-to-cell interactions
