Nonenveloped or naked viruses do not have a phospholipid membrane outside their capsid and remain naked to the external environment. The envelopes are consists of portions of the host cell membranes i.e. phospholipids and proteins as well as some viral glycoproteins are also present in the envelop. Enveloped virus is more sensitive to detergent and alcohol as compared to naked virus because the naked virus has resistance against environmental factors which is absent in the enveloped virus. Once the envelop removed or broken, the virus loses its functional receptors and is not able to cause infection to susceptible cells.
