to the theory. Pasteur's work included the study of microbes in the fermentation of
beer and wine. This led to the process of pasteurization, which revolutionized the
food industry. While studying the microbes involved with fermentation, Pasteur
began to develop his theory of disease and the ability of these unseen pathogens to
