For many years, gardeners have killed weeds with chemicals like Roundup. However, some individual plants had genes that helped them resist the Roundup chemical, while other individual plants had genes that
made them easy to kill with the Roundup.
With such heavy use of Roundup by gardeners, plants with genes for resistance survived and produced more
offspring while plants without resistance to Roundup did not produce many offspring before dying. This
continued for many generations, which eventually caused gardeners to notice that weeds were getting harder
and harder to kill with the same Roundup chemical

Which of the following represents the “selective pressure” in the scenario above?
a. the weeds themselves c. reproduction of offspring
b. genes for resistance d. Roundup chemical
3. Refer to the Roundup scenario, and identify the “genetic diversity”
a. Roundup chemical c. reproduction of offspring
b. genes for resistance d. the weather condition
4. Refer to the Roundup scenario and identify the group that was “selected against”
a. weeds with the resistant gene c. weeds lacking the resistant gene
b. Round up chemical d. the ancillary plants
__ 5. Refer to Roundup scenario and identify the group that is “selected for”
a. weeds lacking the resistant gene c. weeds with the gene for resistance
b. Round up chemical d. the grass

Researchers determine that the biodiversity in a woodland region is declining. they identify two major threats to the region's biodiversity, a method to address each threat, and the expected outcome of each method. this information is shown in the table. threat method number of species that benefit number of years to see benefit habitat fragmentation reforestation 450 8 introduced prey species biological augmentation 150 2 which statement is an accurate explanation of the information in the table? a. biological augmentation would benefit only a few species because it is typically not very effective. b. biological augmentation would take less time to be effective because it targets the majority of prey species. c. reforestation would take the longest time to be effective because trees take several years to grow. d. reforestation would not benefit many species because most forest species live on the ground.
