You have isolated two mutants in a tomato, one is true breeding for yellow fruit (red is wild type), and the other is true breeding for dwarf plants (tall plants are wild type). You suspect these two traits sort independently. After crossing both the true breeding parents, the F1 generation are tall plants with red fruit. You self that F1 and obtain the following progeny numbers: Red, tall - 185
Red, dwarf - 100
Yellow, tall - 56
Yellow, dwarf - 33
Are these numbers consistent with genes that sort independently? Statistically justify your answer.
