Alex is the only family member with a rare genetic disorder called Cystic Fibrosis. Children born with this disease create extra thick, sticky mucus in their lungs making it hard for them to breathe. Cystic Fibrosis is rare because it can only be inherited if both parents have the disease or both parents are carriers of the disease.
