The gametes formed by meiosis undergo two rounds of cell division. In the first round of meiosis, DNA is replicated prior to cell division as it is in mitosis. However, in the second round of meiosis, replication does not occur prior to cell division. What is the significance of this difference between the first and second rounds of meiosis to sexual reproduction?
