Plesae choose the single best answer. If you play the squirrel coin toss game, and one of your squirrels has red fur while the other has gray fur, does this mean that they are different species, by the biological species concept? Why or why not? There is a lot of variation in fur color among squirrels, so it would be safe to assume that they are the same species. If they have different fur colors, the two squirrels are definitely members of different species. Fur color isn't enough information to tell you whether or not two animals belong to the same species. You would need to know whether the populations they come from can interbreed and have fertile offspring. Only if the two squirrels have different fur color and also prefer different foods could you conclude that they belong to different species.
