In this lab, we discussed several explanations for the evolution of bipedalism. Each hypothesis has its drawbacks and has been criticized. It’s your turn to hypothesize why our lineage evolved bipedalism. Describe some of the advantages of bipedalism (be sure to think about what life would have been like for our ancestors millions of years ago when bipedalism evolved, including their risk of predation, food availability, environment, etc.). Are there any disadvantages to bipedalism? If so, what are they? Taking into account these possible advantages and disadvantages, why do you think bipedalism might have evolved?

One of the main disadvantages of bipedalism is that it makes it impossible for mothers to carry their young efficiently. This is because bipedalism stimulates the spine's reaction, which may cause the puppies to slip and stay behind, or to be caught by predators. Thus, bipedalism impairs the maintenance of the species, as it leaves the puppies vulnerable.

Bipedalism also causes a decrease in the speed of the body that must be fighting gravity at all times. This can hinder the hunting and flight of predators, which, again, impairs the survival of the species.

for  example, forests have higher evapotranspiration than other ecosystems,  such  as grasslands, because of their deeper roots and greater leaf area. thus forests have a net moistening effect on the atmosphere and become a moisture source for downwind ecosystems.
