In 1943, a farmer who lived about 300 miles west of Mexico City was shocked when the ground of his cornfield began to crack. Smoke began hissing out of the crack, followed later by fiery eruptions! By the next day, the eruptions had piled up ash and bits of lava 50 meters high.

Just a few days later, the cone would be over 100 meters high. It continued to erupt until 1952 and reached a height of over 400 meters.
